Terms of Service
Effective 3 September 2026
Acceptance of these terms
By creating a WriteSmart account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you are a parent or guardian setting up an account for a student, you're agreeing on behalf of both yourself and the student.
What WriteSmart is
WriteSmart is a writing practice tool for students preparing for the NSW Selective School and AAS/ACER Scholarship tests. It provides timed and untimed writing prompts and AI-generated, rubric-aligned feedback on submitted writing.
Who can use WriteSmart
WriteSmart is intended to be used by students with the involvement of a parent or guardian. An account should be created and managed by a parent or guardian, or by a student with their parent or guardian's permission and supervision.
Early access
WriteSmart is currently offered free during early access to a limited group of users. Early access means the service may change significantly, have bugs, or occasionally be unavailable while we're actively developing it. We don't guarantee uninterrupted availability during this period.
AI-generated feedback
Scores and feedback shown in WriteSmart are generated by an AI system, not a certified NSW Selective or Scholarship examiner. They are WriteSmart Writing Scores based on key writing skills, intended for practice purposes only - they are not official NSW or school marks, a guarantee of exam performance, or a substitute for advice from a teacher or tutor. AI-generated feedback can occasionally be inaccurate or inconsistent.
Your account
Keep your login details secure and don't share your password. Please provide accurate information when creating your account. If you're a parent or guardian, you're responsible for activity on the account you manage.
Acceptable use
Please use WriteSmart for personal educational practice. Don't:
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute prompts, rubric content, or AI feedback
- Attempt to bypass usage limits put in place to keep the service free for everyone
- Submit content that is unlawful, abusive, or infringes someone else's rights
Fees
WriteSmart is free during early access. If we introduce paid plans in the future, we'll let existing users know in advance and update these terms accordingly.
Ownership of content
You (or your student) retain ownership of the writing you submit. WriteSmart retains ownership of its prompts, rubric, platform, and the AI feedback system used to generate scores and coaching notes.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate an account that misuses the service or violates these terms. You can stop using WriteSmart, or ask us to delete your account and data, at any time - see our Privacy Policy for how.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
WriteSmart is provided "as is" during early access, without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, WriteSmart is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, including reliance on AI-generated feedback or scores.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as WriteSmart develops, especially as we move beyond early access. We'll update the effective date above when we do.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
